AU Summary

·Born to a Rivaini mother and the head of House Belmonte, an Antivan Crow, Nezumi was raised by his grandmother after his parents and baby sister were killed by an elf from Dairsmuid. He'd been four at the time and it didn't matter to him that the elf had claimed to be his mother's real husband - just that, according to his Grans, the bastard had managed to get away, despite the wounds inflicted by his own father.

· When he was five, she told him that the elf was probably still alive... and that she could train him to exact revenge. Thus, he began his apprenticeship with his first Crow Master.

· Every day, he trained under his grandmother's critical eye, indoctrinated to the ruthless practicality necessary to not just survive, but excel as an assassin within the organization. He made his first kill at seven while training against other novices, and then moved on to claim his first successful assassination contract when he was twelve. It was then that he was assigned a proper master: Ikki Belmonte.

· Nezumi spent the next five years refining his skills under Ikki's tutelage, in preparation of taking over his House from his Grans and Uncle once he had the experience necessary. By sixteen, he's achieved 'master' status in his own right, before his grans died on a mission of her own - robbing Nezumi of the chance to grasp the revenge she's trained him for by stealing it for herself, when she both killed and was killed by the Rivaini elf that had supposedly killed his parents. He'd be bitter about this, except it's a waste of time to bother with such a useless emotion - she'd taught him that. Her loss didn't have too great an impact on Nezumi's world. He successfully completed his Talon mission less than a year later, becoming the youngest in his line to meet the criteria to inherit, but his uncle delayed handing over control of the House at that time due to his age and experience levels and Nezumi agreed.

· Nezumi felt that there was still a fair bit he could learn from Ikki, who had spent the year since Nezumi's Grans death building a spy network in Val Royeaux. This changed when Ikki's lover and beloved was killed by a rival Crow faction. Ikki's subsequent decision to leave the house was met with force by Nezumi's Uncle, and it wasn't until Nezumi intervened that the hostilities ceased. He managed to negotiate a 'peace' by allowing Ikki to retire and giving his former mentor the names of those that had ordered the death of Ikki's beloved. From that time on, Nezumi has been working contracts by himself, seeing no need for either partner or apprentice. This latest contract, however, seemed more of a challenge... to keep an apostate mage and well-known Marquis related to Celene in Val Royeaux (and his contractor's identical twin) alive, in the middle of a mage rebellion. How hard could it really be?
